Silverfish are nocturnal, flattened insects typically 13–25mm long. Their body tapers at the end, giving them a fish-like appearance. The newly hatched are whitish, but they develop a greyish/silver colour with a metallic shine as they get older. Silverfish completely lack wings, they have long antennae and move in a wiggling motion that resembles the movement of a fish. Silverfish typically live for two to eight years.
Firstly, we will come to your property for an initial consultation where will we discuss the issue with you before investigating the source of the pests by looking for existing nests, etc. We have 14 years’ experience tracking down the source of pests, so you can rest assured that we know what to look out for.
The complete exterior of your property will then be sprayed – if ant nests exist the spray will stir them up, in which case a heavier spray will be applied.
Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organised colonies that may occupy large territories and consist of millions of individuals.
Bed bugs are light brown to reddish-brown, flattened, oval shaped and have no hind wings. Their front wings are useless and reduced to pad-like structures. Bed bugs have segmented abdomens with microscopic hairs that give them a banded appearance. Adults grow to 4–5mm in length and 1.5–3mm wide. Newly hatched nymphs are see-through, lighter in colour and become browner as they moult and reach maturity.
Cockroaches are insects of the order Blattaria or Blattodea, of which about 30 species out of 4,500 in total are associated with human habitations. About four species are well known as pests. Cockroaches live in a wide range of environments around the world.
Fleas are insects approximately 1.5 to 3.3mm long. They are agile, usually dark coloured, wingless insects with tube-like mouthparts adapted for feeding on the blood of their hosts. Their hind legs are long and well adapted for jumping: a flea can jump vertically up to 18cm and horizontally up to 33 cm. This is around 200 times their body length!
Where possible, bees or wasps and their hive will be safely removed and taken to an apiarist. If this isn’t possible (such as in cases where they are located in a wall cavity), they will be fumigated.
Mice are small rodents that mainly live with humans, causing damage to stored food, housing structure, electrical wiring, and furniture. They can grow to between 75 and 100mm in length and they vary in colour from white to grey and light brown to black.
